What Border? Isn't This a Free For All?

Soap Box Moment

I published a hub that discussed the statistics of the death casualties of war. Upon finishing the hub I decided to look around for something interesting and possibly entertaining to read. You know, something to help put me to bed like, dare I say, a bed time story. Anywho, there I am scrolling current news and I see an article about Mexican Soldiers crossing the border June 23, 2011 at Bridge 2, Laredo, Texas. Apparently, they were lost.

KGNS-TV, Channel 8, broke the story when receiving a tip-off from a law enforcement agency. Though Channel 8 did not receive the tip off from the CBP here is a break down of their report:

A CBP spokesperson says they got on the phone with Mexican authorities after being alerted that the military trucks were heading their direction loaded down with soldiers and weapons.

What comes to mind is how this connects to the point of the hub I just published on war, "War - Deadly Statistics". My conclusive point was to bring our troops home so they aren't fighting foreign wars and so they can serve this country by being its defense. Granted, the Mexican Soldiers were said to be lost and unfamiliar with their location. However, if I were trying to sneak across the border as a soldier, would I tell the truth?

It seems likely that these soldiers really were lost because, they could have done much more harm and been much better at stealth if they wanted to sneak into the country. Actually, we know they have better ways to sneak into the country if they want. It's the Mexican Government that should be concerned. The soldiers didn't read a sign, see the fence, don't know the area of their own country. I mean, who was running this unit?

Now, it may be true that in this instance these soldiers were confused when they crossed the border with three military trucks, but in the last 8 years there have been several accounts where there have been shots across the border from soldiers who tried to cross. Even Mexican military who were aiding those who crossed with a large possession of marijuana.

In truth, there are too many factors unknown to determine the verity of the situation but, it seems clear that the issue of border control should not be taken lightly. Not ever. Most countries have strict policies about foreigners being allowed to cross their borders. Why shouldn't they? They have millions of reasons with each life lost in each war they fought on their very soils. Maybe it's because we as Americans have not lived through what other countries have with wars on their land and at their borders but, should we wait to find out?

9/11 shocked our nation and we wanted retribution. We were lucky that we have been able to still remain free from war on our soil. Let's hope it isn't the quiet before the storm and while we remain defenceless there isn't a greater threat brewing; and like the 'Kansas City Shuffle' we're looking over here and war is beginning over there (as I point to the opposite direction).

Just sayin'!

Last Christmas, I met an old friend of mine who is now a retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel. We got to talking about the Mexican drug violence since he lives in El Paso, TX now. He told me at that time there have been numerous "excusions" of the Mexican Army into U.S. territory. He said this happens, on average, about twice a month. The Border Patrol reports it, but nothing is ever done about it. I laughed about it to him. I said, "The Mexican Army? Come on, there are enough prostitutes and drug pushers in El Paso alone who could defeat them." He looked serious when he said, "They are doing this for a reason. They are probing weaknesses along our border." I asked,"Probing for what?" He said, "An Invasion. They want the land back they feel was stolen from them. They also know Obama won't send U.S. troops in to fight them if they come in."

I walked away from him, deciding he had spent too much time in the Texas sun. Now, this report of the Mexican Army unit getting "lost" into US territory? Here's a news flash...they know NORTH is the United States. How the hell did they get "lost?" I wonder if the laugh is on me now, instead of that Lt. Colonel friend of mine.

Your friend was right when he talked about the fact that it has happened before and even with gunshots at Border Patrol. It is hard to imagine that we have exhausted our resources by fighting way too many foreign wars and no we are nearly defenseless.

It is a serious issue. I am sure the laugh isn't on you because, it is really hard to imagine and yet...here we are.

Living close to the border my whole life we are constantly dismayed at how the feds care so little what happens, this is the reason Arizona and Texas are beginning to pass their own laws and we are now fully ready to shut down borders!

I think "getting lost" really means; looking for a good location to run drugs. I've lived in Florida nearly my whole life and deal with similar border issues. Same story, different location.

American Romance, TeaPartyCrasher, Cooldad, It seems this is the norm for our Border states. It make come down to those living in the Border States to protect the rest of us.

I actually hope it is as simple as looking for a good location to run drugs in opposition to the alternative.

I can never wrap my arms around the indifference this government shows to our borders and the jeopardy they pose for our citizens. We should demand attention be given to the borders. Obama likes to keep them open so that he can amass new voters. I am sick of the whole thing. We have a right to demand that our government act in our best interests not theirs! Up and awesome.

breakfastpop, Thank you. And you are exactly right. I have family in Arizona, Friends in California, Florida and Texas. They will be the first to face this danger. No wonder they want to pass strict state laws to help protect the people in their state, just as American Romance said above. I mean, doesn't Florida have enough to deal with? Hurricanes almost every season.

Thanks for commenting. See you around at the inn, woods or pub. Maybe we should all start using a secret handshake.

I'm suspicious, too, because it happens too often. And no, I don't believe they're lost. I think they just want to see what will happen. And get local people used to it.
